It's a new week!
Happy New Week to you! Hope you had a lovely weekend and a great time at church yesterday?
A few weeks ago, I shared a number of tips on how you can avoid distractions in the place of prayer. Click here to read the article. This week, I'd like us to look into the common distractions that could prevent us from seeking after God. God says that we should seek Him above all else, and we should live righteously and He will give us everything that we need (Matthew 6:33).
1 Corinthians 7:35b says that we should serve the Lord best, with as few distractions as possible.
It is the plan of God's enemy (the devil) to distract you from serving the Lord. When the enemy sends distractions, they never look like distractions until you have been distracted by them. Please, don't fall for his strategies.
Sometimes, distractions come through the following:
- Constant discussions about politics
- Constantly criticising others including criticising believers
- Binge-watching on things that will not build you up spiritually
- Hectic routines and schedules that do not include God or anything to connect you with God or with your fellow Christians
- Spending all day discussing irrelevant things with friends
- Your phone, maybe?
- Reading novels that won't build you up spiritually.
Hebrews 12:1b says that we should remove from our lives anything that would get in the way and the sin that so easily holds us back. I love the way PHILLIPS version explained Romans 12:2b, it says "Don’t let the world around you squeeze you into its own mould, but let God re-mould your minds from within, so that you may prove in practice that the plan of God for you is good, meets all his demands and moves towards the goal of true maturity."
What are the things that are distracting you from seeking God? Do you want to do something about those things?
After publishing this article, I came across a Christian article that links to this post. I'd like you to read it. It's about 4 Surprising Ways Busy Moms Waste Their Time and How to Boost Your Productivity. Click here to read it.

Great post! You mentioned some distractions that many people don't think about, but they can indeed get in the way! Hebrews 12:1 is a great verse! Love this!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteDefinitely the phone! It can be quite the distraction ;)
ReplyDeleteIt is certainly distracting. One thing that I would like to start incorporating is to schedule a time that I access the internet on my phone. One thing that works for me is leaving my phone in another room whenever I am spending time with God or with my family.
DeleteWell written. More grace sis.
ReplyDeleteDiscouragement from the misbehaviour of Christians we hold in high esteem is another one. This is why Jesus must always be our focus.
Amen. Thank you, sister Ayo. That's true, Jesus should be our focus.
DeleteI love how you note that we don’t even realize things are a distraction until we’re already distracted my them. So true! What a trap we get into sometimes. Thanks for this post, and thanks for including the link to my article! -Shanna
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, Shanna. And because a lot of us don't realise some things are a distraction until we're already distracted, articles like yours and mine are super encouraging to open our eyes to the truth of God's Word.
