5 Bible Passages to read on Christmas Day

Hello Readers & Followers,

It's Christmas!

Here are 5 Bible Passages that you can read on Christmas Day with your family

1. Isaiah 9:6–7 says

"For to us a child is born, to us, a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace, there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this."

2. 2 Corinthians 5:17–21 says

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.

Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake, He made Him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God."

3. Micah 5:1–5 says

"Now muster your troops, O daughter of troops; siege is laid against us; with a rod, they strike the judge of Israel on the cheek. But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days.

Therefore he shall give them up until the time when she who is in labour has given birth; then the rest of his brothers shall return to the people of Israel.

And he shall stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God. And they shall dwell secure, for now, he shall be great to the ends of the earth. And he shall be their peace."

4. Luke 2:29–32 says

Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel.

5. Titus 3:4–7 says

"But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to His own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by His grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life."

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace during this season in Jesus' name.

Have a lovely Christmas!

The True Meaning of Biblical Repentance (Part 2)

Hello Readers & Followers,

It's December! The Christmas season! I can officially say "Season's Greetings" to you all.

Also, today my Christian writing website turned 9! Praise be to God!! Thank God for the journey so far and thank God for fulfilling His purpose through this website.  I would also like to thank you for being a part of Mysses Lafunky's readers. I appreciate each and every one of you.

I am continuing the series on Repentance. This is the last article on Repentance. Did you miss the previous article? Please click here to read it.

2 Corinthians 7:10 says "Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death (NIV version)." This Scripture is teaching us that the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience is the sorrow that makes us change our hearts and lives, leading to salvation as the world way of grieving produces death.

The People of Nineveh

Do you remember the story of the people of Nineveh? The people of Nineveh had sinned against God and God wanted to give them a chance to change their hearts and lives (Jonah 1- 4). The Lord spoke his word to Jonah and sent him to Nineveh to inform them that their city will be destroyed in 40 days if they do not repent. Jonah actually wanted God to destroy them due to the various atrocities that the people of Nineveh had committed and he knew about God being rich in mercy. To cut the long story short, Jonah delivered the word of the Lord to the people of Nineveh. Did the people practise godly sorrow? Let's see what the Bible says in the book of Jonah 3:5 -10, the Scriptures say:

Hello Readers & Followers,

How was your weekend? I hope you had a lovely weekend. I have been asked by the Holy Spirit to complete a series on Repentance with Mysses Lafunky's followers including my Bible Study group members.

The very first thing Jesus preached was Repentance. In Matthew 4:17, Jesus said, "Repent for the kingdom of heaven has come near."

Never Forget to Say Thank You

Hello Everyone,

How are you doing? Hope you had a lovely weekend. It's a New Week! Glory be to God in the Highest!

In 2014, I received a "Thank You" card in the post. The card was sent by a friend to whom I gave a wedding gift. I was surprised to have received a Thank You card. That was my first experience of receiving a thank you card from someone.

Ask yourself...
Have I ever done something for someone and I expected the individual to say thank you but they never did? Are you someone that says thank you or do you feel too pompous to say thank you to those who have helped you? Do you know that Jesus expects us to give thanks at all times?

A man once said after he went food shopping for his household and came back home, his wife said "thank you darling for taking your time to provide food for our family by going food shopping." The husband did not expect his wife to have said thank you as he felt it was his duty and role to not only provide the basic care needs of the family but to assist in purchasing the food items. Nevertheless, the husband felt appreciated by the act of gratitude that his wife had shown to him.

When last did you thank your spouse for their role at home? Create time today and thank your spouse, be specific about what you are thanking your spouse for. Last week, one of my Bible Study group members encouraged us to be specific in giving thanks to our spouses for the support they have been offering us. As my husband was at work, I sent a text message to him and I specified all the things that I was thanking him for. My husband felt appreciated, he later asked me if I would like Chinese food or pizza for dinner.

You may be thinking that you do not mind if people do not show you gratitude after you have helped them. However, it does not negate the fact that you should say thank you to others when they have helped you.

WHO SHOULD YOU EXPRESS THANKS TO?
Express your thanksgiving to everyone whether the person is younger than you, older than you or whether they are your junior or senior at work or school. Saying thank you should also not be based on age, social status and title.

Like many of us that appreciate thanksgiving whether we expect it or not, Jesus Christ expects us to give thanks to God through Him (1 Thess 5:18).

WHEN LAST DID YOU THANK GOD?
When last did you thank God for your job? For the breath of life? For the fact that you can eat, drink, see, spend money and buy things? When last did you thank God for the beautiful flowers, trees and animals that you see? For your house? Parents? Children? For peace, for joy? For safety? All these things are not our entitlements, it is because God has chosen to shower us with these blessings.

Whether you are a believer in Jesus Christ or a person who does not even believe in Jesus Christ, the fact that you are alive is only possible because of Jesus Christ. It is only God through Jesus Christ that can bless you with wonderful blessings; we must therefore not be oblivious to His blessings.

What is Your Perspective on Giving as a Christian?

Hello Everyone,

Thank God It's Friday! I thought to share what the Holy Spirit has been teaching me recently. The Holy Spirit has been reminding me of the biblical principle of giving. The Holy Spirit said giving brings a far greater blessing than receiving and there is no need to be anxious in the place of giving. God is essentially saying that we will have more blessings when we give than when we receive.

Do you believe you will have more blessings when you give than when you receive? Or do you always want to receive from people rather than give?

I believe an average human being prefers to acquire and be given things rather than to give. Most people love the security of having things and a lot of people struggle to understand that God will supply them with what they need.

Christ has SEALED You with the Holy Spirit

 Hello Everyone,

How was your week? Thank God It's Friday! I thought to write about what I recently studied alongside my Bible Study group members. We looked into what it means to be sealed by the Holy Spirit in line with Ephesians 1:13.

How Do You Use Your Words?

Hello Everyone,

How is your week going? Hope you are having a lovely week. Today's article is about "How You Use Your Words."  How do you use your words?

Let me share a personal experience with you. I had an interesting experience in the Year 2009. After my undergraduate degree, everyone kept asking me about my plans prior to my graduation ceremony. I spoke positively that I was going to gain admission to a particular university to embark on a course (Masters in Social Work). After all, the Bible says in Romans 4:17b that we should "call those things which do not exist as though they did."

What does it mean to be Born Again by Water and the Holy Spirit?

Hello Everyone,

How is your week going? In the last 3 weeks, I have been writing about the Holy Spirit. I hope you have been blessed by the articles that the Holy Spirit has inspired me to write.

Today's article is about being Born Again by Water and the Holy Spirit

Nicodemus and Jesus

Nicodemus was a moral man who was held in high regard in his community. He came to Jesus one night privately and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher.” Nicodemus probably had a question to ask Jesus but before Nicodemus could say anything else, Jesus told him in the Book of John 3:3, what it means to be Born Again.

Jesus explained to Nicodemus that no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are Born Again. Nicodemus was marvelled by this statement, he had to ask Jesus how it was possible for someone that is old to be born again, and how it was possible for an individual to enter into their mother's womb to be born a second time.

Perhaps Nicodemus did not understand why someone that is already living their life (perhaps a good life? an upright life?) needed to be Born Again.

What does it mean to be Born Again?

To be Born Again is to have the life of God. God wants you to have His life. He wants you to experience a new birth by accepting to follow Him. He would like you to be born spiritually with the life of God. He would like to guide your life rather than for things around you to guide you. He created you, He would like you to make a choice to follow Him.

The new birth gives you spiritual life and welcomes you to the family of God. John 1:12 says "As many as received Him, to them He gave the right (the authority, the privilege) to become children of God, to those who believe in His name." John 1:13 further states that "They did not become his children in a human way. They were not born because of the desire or wish of some man. They were born of God (spiritually transformed, renewed, sanctified)."

So, how can you experience this new birth?

Jesus answered Nicodemus and said "I tell you the truth unless you are born from water and the Spirit, you cannot enter God's Kingdom (John 3:5)."

What does it mean for the Holy Spirit to be our Comforter?

Hello Everyone,

How was your week? Thank God It's Friday! Last week, I wrote about the power of the Holy Spirit and how the Holy Spirit teaches us all things. If you missed the article, click here to read it.

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you (John 14:26 KJV version).

During the week, I set a task for my Bible Study Group members to dig deeper on what it means for the Holy Spirit to be our Comforter and for us to explore the Greek meaning of the word "Comforter." I was immensely blessed by the study and I thought to share a few points with you from our study.

The Power of the Holy Spirit

Hello Everyone,

How are you doing? Hope you had a lovely weekend. It's a New Week! Glory be to God in the Highest! This week's article is about the Power of the Holy Spirit.

Who is the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit is part of the Trinity and Jesus Christ identified the position of the Holy Spirit as the same as the Father and the Son. Let me share some Bible verses to buttress my points. The Scripture says in 1 John 5:7 "For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.

Jesus told us in Matthew 28:19 that we should "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."

God Can Stir Up the Heart of Non-Christians

Hello Everyone,

Do you know that our Lord Jesus Christ can stir up the heart of those that are not Christians including hostile authorities so that He can accomplish His plans on earth? God has the power to use anybody and anything to fulfil His plans because He is supreme. God owns the whole world, and every single thing is subjected to Him (Hebrews 2:8). My daughter loves singing this famous song that says "He's got the whole world, in His hands, God's got the whole world, in His hands, He's got the whole world, in His hands, He's got the whole world in His hands."

Let me share a story in the Bible with you. There was an ungodly king called Cyrus that reigned in Persia from 559 to 530 (B.C - BC stands for Before Christ). He wasn't an Israelite neither did he believe in the God of Israel. The Bible recorded something amazing that happened to Ezra in the Book of  Ezra 1:1-2. It says:

"The Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and also put it in writing, saying, Thus says Cyrus king of Persia: All the kingdoms of the earth the Lord God of heaven has given me. And He has commanded me to build Him a house at Jerusalem which is in Judah."

Did you notice what king Cyrus said above? He said the Lord God of heaven has commanded him to build a house for Him in Judah. This was a man that did not believe in the Lord God of Israel but because the Lord stirred up his spirit, God used Cyrus to establish His sovereign plans on earth.

King Cyrus further stated in Ezra 1:3 that: "Who is among you of all His people? May his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem which is in Judah, and build the house of the Lord God of Israel (He is God), which is in Jerusalem."

There are a number of lessons that you can learn from how God stirred up the spirit of an ungodly king. Let me share a few and please feel free to add more lessons to it:

1a) God can stir up the heart of anyone towards Him. This means if you are trusting God to transform someone's life, please don't give up praying to God. Keep praying and trusting God even when things seem impossible. At the perfect time, God will stir up the heart of the person towards Him. Likewise, you could be praying concerning hostile leaders, never give up praying as God can make a way where there seems to be no way. He can stir up the heart of a king or a leader towards Him. In fact, Proverbs 21:1 says that "The king’s heart is like a stream of water directed by the Lord; He guides it wherever He pleases."

1b) Also, God can stir up the heart of anyone to favour you. You do not need to have a special relationship with the person before God uses them to favour you.

2) It is not by accident that people accomplish God's purpose for their lives. Did you know that 100 years before Cyrus accomplished an assignment for God, Prophet Isaiah had prophesied that Cyrus will be a shepherd for God and he will do what God says and he will play a role in rebuilding Jerusalem and restoring the temple (Isaiah 44:28)?  This is quite encouraging to know that God's desire is to cause His children to accomplish His work on earth. Although I believe sin in an individual's life could delay God's plans for their lives from being fulfilled or for the plans to be cut short (Deuteronomy 28:15). Therefore, it is advisable for you to keep walking in obedience to God's Word so that His plans for your life can be fulfilled as He intends them to be.

3) Don't be too quick to dismiss what a non-christian tells you. Take time to examine their advice in line with the Word of God, and also ask God to speak to you concerning what someone has said even if they are a Christian.

Are there other lessons that you could pick out from how God stirred up the spirit of Cyrus? Please, take a minute to share by leaving a comment.

Prayer

I would like to use this opportunity to pray for Christians that are in Afghanistan. I pray that the Lord will keep them safe during this difficult period in Jesus' name. I also pray that the Lord will stir up the spirit of the leaders in Afghanistan to favour Christians, and for the gospel to keep being spread across Afghanistan in Jesus' name.

Have a lovely week!

Mysses Lafunky

Do You Sometimes Limit God?

Hello Everyone,

How are you doing? Hope you had a lovely weekend. It's a New Week! Glory be to God in the Highest! This week's article is about my recent experience with God. I was having a conversation with God in my thoughts as you know, God hears our silent prayers. A Scripture to corroborate this can be found in Psalm 139:4 which says that God knows what we are going to say even before we say it.

Back to my silent conversation with God. I asked God that I would like Him to make provisions for us (my family) to bless some people with some particular gifts. I carefully came up with a reasonable figure that I believe God should bless us with so that we can be a blessing. God immediately explained to me that I was limiting Him. He said that my prayer was doubting His ability to provide for us abundantly. He reminded me of His Word in Psalm 24:1 which says "The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein."

God reminded me that the earth belongs to Him, He owns every single thing in this world, and He can create and make provision for everything even things that my mind cannot comprehend, God said He can create new things as He has the power to do anything, absolutely anything. Isn't this mind-blowing?

God also said every single thing is under His control, and the whole world and I have no idea of things that are still subjected to Him. The Scripture that corroborated what God said to me can be found in Hebrews 2:8. Let me share an image that you can read about Hebrews 2:8.

Making A Conscious Effort to Spend Time with God

Hello Everyone,

How are you doing? I hope your new week is going well. Last week, I (with the inspiration of the Holy Spirit)  wrote about "The Use of the Lord's Prayer." If you haven't read the article, please click this link to read it; you will gain something new. This week's article is about making a conscious effort to spend time with God.

As a Christian, are you intentional in creating time to connect with God? God is always wanting to spend time with His children. I love the story of Zaccheaus in the Bible (Luke 19:1-6). Let me share a Bible Story video about Zaccheaus with you. This video is from Saddleback Kids Bible Stories' Youtube channel. How Do You Use The Lord's Prayer?

Hello Everyone,

How are you doing? I hope you had a lovely weekend. Thank God for keeping each and every one of us alive to see another week. It is always a privilege to be alive.

This week's article is about The Lord's Prayer

Some people say that the purpose of The Lord's Prayer is for Christians to memorise the prayers while some people believe The Lord's Prayer is an old way of praying to God, thus, we should discard it. However, some would argue that The Lord's Prayer should be recited corporately by Christians. Do you have a view on this? When did you learn The Lord's Prayer? I learnt The Lord's Prayer as far back as Primary School. I'm not sure if I learned it at church or school, but I remember learning it as a memory verse.

Regardless of our opinions on how The Lord's Prayer should be used, one thing I would like us to learn from The Lord's Prayer is that, as Christians, we can use The Lord's Prayer as a template to talk to God.

Your Life Can Be Meaningful

Hello Everyone,

Happy New Month! Thank God for keeping us through the first 7 months of 2021.

How are you doing? I hope you are well. I know I haven't shared any articles for the last 8 weeks. My sincere apologies. My silence was due to adjusting to a number of things in the background. In the fullness of time, I will share some of the things that I have been doing. So, back to this week's article (as you know, I share an article every Monday)...

Your Life Can Be Meaningful!

Some people live their lives as if they own their lives; forgetting that God owns their lives. He created you and gave you life. That's right! Do you know that you have to give an account of your life to God? The Book of Romans 14:12 says "then, each of us will give an account of himself to God." How are you living your life? Every single day of your life is being seen by God, even your thought is seen and known by God (Psalm 139).

Are you conscious of how you are living? Or do you feel nobody sees or knows what you are doing, or that nobody sees the state of your heart? Thus, you can hide things from others. The Book of Luke 8:17 says "For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open."

I would like you to know that God's free gift (that is, God's remarkable, overwhelming gift of grace to believers) can help you to enjoy this life on earth. Christ died for you so that your life on earth can have meaning. Likewise, so that you can make heaven, eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord is waiting for those who believe and live for Christ. Matthew 7:21 says "Not everyone who says ‘You are my Lord’ will enter the kingdom of heaven. The only people who will enter the kingdom of heaven are those who do the things that my Father in heaven wants."

Have you surrendered your life to Christ? Have you surrendered unto God the things that you know that God will not be pleased with? To believe in Christ means you must be ready to live for Christ. You must be ready to give up those things that are not of God. You must be ready to do the things that God wants even if it will cost you.

Christ has sent the Holy Spirit to help you live a life that has meaning on this earth, and a life that will lead to eternal life. Are you allowing the Holy Spirit to lead you? Or are you leading yourself? Leading yourself will destroy your soul as that is the aim of the devil. His plan is to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10a).

If this message has blessed you — would you like to share it with someone? Send it to a friend, on your social media platforms, family members, and many more.

Also, I love hearing from you in the comment section. Please take a minute to say ‘hello’ by leaving a comment.

Have a lovely week!

Yours in Christ,

Mysses Lafunky

Prove Your Faith

Hello Readers & Followers,

How was your weekend? I hope you had a restful and lovely weekend? It is another week! Praise be to God for His mercies over us. This week's post is an opportunity for us to reflect on the genuineness of our faith. Most people may have heard someone say "I love You" to their spouse. However, I believe the phrase "I love You" carries better weight when it is shown through works. How would I know that my husband loves me? It is not only in what he says to me but rather in his actions toward me. This applies to our relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Jesus would like us to prove our faith by our actions. Jesus said in John 14:15 that "If you love me, obey my commandments."

Showing Biblical Kindness to Others

Hello Readers & Followers,

How are you doing? I hope you had a lovely Easter weekend and that your celebration was filled with the joy of the Lord. Today's post is about the kindness of God. Let me ask you a question, do you think the words kindness and Biblical kindness are different? From my understanding of the Word of God, Biblical kindness is different from the kindness that we sometimes show towards others albeit there are similarities. Kindness is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).

An Open Letter to Those That Misuse Church/Christian Ministry Funds

Hello Readers & Followers,

I hope you are well. I am currently writing a series on 'The Love of Money'. Last week, I wrote about what the love of money is about and the dangers of loving money. If you missed the article, please click here to read. Today's post is the 2nd of 3 teachings in this series.

This open letter is addressed to all Christians in positions of financial authority and that are misusing funds that belong to God's work.

God would like you to be reminded of the following:

Keep your life free from the love of money, and be content with what you have, for God has said, He will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5).

He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this also is vanity (Ecclesiastes 5:10).

For the sake of dishonest gain, you are teaching things that you ought not to teach (Titus 1:10-11).

You say, "I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing. But you do not realise that you are wretched (miserable), pitiful, poor, blind and naked. (Revelation 3:17)."

Do you want to end up like Judas Iscariot, Gehazi and Achan?

Christian Attitude to Fasting

Hello Readers & Followers,

I am continuing the series on fasting and prayer. If you missed last week's topic (10 reasons why Christians should fast), please click on this link to catch up. Today's topic is about the attitude that we (Christians) should have when fasting. This is the 2nd of 4 teachings on fasting and prayer.

Do you know that people fast for different reasons? Some fast as part of their religion, some fast because they want to lose weight, some fast for medical or experimental reasons. As you have learnt from last week's post, Christians also fast for several reasons. When we are fasting as Christians, Christ expects us to have the right attitude towards fasting. We need to fast in line with God's desires and purpose.

God's Word for Year 2021

Hello Readers & Followers,

It's a New Year! Thank You, Jesus, for keeping each and every one of us alive to be a part of the Year 2021. I'd like you to know that God has kept you alive because He has a role in your life. He still has good plans for you to fulfil. See below for what the Lord had shared with me concerning the Year 2021.

God said:

For I am about to do something new.

See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?

I will make a pathway through the wilderness.

I will create rivers in the dry wasteland (Isaiah 43:19).

God also said:

And afterwards, I will pour out my Spirit on all people.

Your sons and daughters will prophesy,

Your old men will dream dreams,

Your young men will see visions (Joel 2:28).

Mysses Lafunky's wisdom nuggets

As you start the year and write up a plan, remember that as you plan, it is God who determines the outcome (Proverbs 16:33) and it is He who works in you to will and to do according to His good pleasure (Philippians 2:13). So, do not make your plans in isolation of God, let Him lead you and direct you on what to do and when to do it.

Prayer

May the Lord guide your path in the Year 2021. May you fulfil His purpose for your life in Jesus' name.

Yours in Christ,

Mysses Lafunky
