Jesus | The Perfect Sacrifice For Our Sins

Hello Readers & Followers,

How was your weekend? Thank God it's a new week! Praise be to God Most High! It's Easter week. This week's topic is about how Jesus became the Perfect Sacrifice for our sins. 

Let me start by explaining the meaning of sacrifice. A sacrifice is usually when we give up something that is important to us. It is giving up something that is valuable to us in order to help someone else. Can you think of something that you will find difficult to give up? Do you know that God had to sacrifice His only son to die for our sins? I wonder how God had felt to have given up His only son to die for our sins. I believe God chose to do this because of His love for us. The Word of God says in John 3:16:

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."

Let me explain what was happening before God gave His only son to die for our sins. Read the Book of Hebrews chapter 10 to understand the below message.

The Old Covenant (also known as the first covenant)

The old system under the law of Moses was only a shadow, a dim preview of the good things to come. Under the old covenant, the priest stands and ministers before the altar day after day, offering the same sacrifices (killing and burning of animals) again and again, which did not take away sins. In fact, the Bible recorded that the old covenant brought a reminder of sins (Hebrews 10:3). In essence, the animal sacrifices that were offered under the old covenant did not take away the guilt of sin. All they did was to cover up their sins which did not help and they were constantly reminded of their sins every year. Due to this, God cancelled the first covenant in order to put the second into effect as His plan was/is still for us to be made holy. God made a decision to provide the perfect sacrifice for our sins. 

The New Covenant (Jesus, The Perfect Sacrifice)

God offered the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time. God offered Jesus as Jesus was without sin. Hebrews 4:15 says: "For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathise with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin." Under the old covenant, they had to offer an animal that was without defect. Leviticus 4:32 says: "If someone brings a lamb as their sin offering, they are to bring a female without defect." Jesus Christ, our High Priest was without sin, He offered Himself to God as a single sacrifice for the sins of the whole world. With the one singular action by Jesus Christ, our sins were taken away. The Holy Spirit confirmed what Jesus did in Hebrews 10:15-17.  For he says,

 “This is the new covenant I will make

    with my people on that day, says the Lord:

I will put my laws in their hearts,

    and I will write them on their minds.

Then he says, I will never again remember their sins and lawless deeds."

How incredible! How powerful! The one singular action by Jesus Christ took away the sins of the whole world. The one singular action wrote off all our sins and Christ will not remember our sins once we have confessed. We do not need to offer any more sacrifices by killing and burning animals to pay for our sins (verse 18 of Hebrews 10). Also, God said because of Jesus' death on the cross of Calvary, we can boldly approach Him because of the blood of Jesus as Jesus has cancelled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. In this way, Jesus disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by His victory over them on the cross (Colossians 2:14-15). Praise be to God! 

Do you know that Jesus Christ is the only God that died and rose again? Anyway, the Bible says there is only one God. In the Book of 1 Timothy 2:5, the Bible says "For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus."

Jesus offered His body once and for all, He gave Himself, once for all, for the forgiveness of our sins and to reconnect us back to God so that we may live a life that is pleasing to God.

 1) For us to come to Him

2) Listen to His teaching

3) Follow His teaching (Luke 6:47).

Are you already a follower of Jesus Christ? Easter time is an opportunity for you to reflect on your relationship with God and people. Are you showing the love of God to those around you? 1 John 4:20-21 (EXB version) says:

"If people say, “I love God,” but hate their brothers or sisters [ fellow believers], they are liars.  Those who do not love their brothers and sisters [ fellow believers], whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have never seen. And God gave us this command [we have this command from him]: Those who love God must also love their brothers and sisters [ fellow believers; John 13:34]."
