Can You Be a Christian and Love MONEY?

Hello Readers & Followers,

Welcome to the new series on 'The Love of Money.'  As Christians, are you allowed to love money?

From the Word of God, money is not evil by itself but it is LOVING MONEY that is evil. According to the Word of God in 1 Timothy 6:10, the love of money causes all kinds of evil. Not just evil but God said the desire to have money is the root of all evil. God is essentially saying the love of money will cause one to do evil. In 1 Thessalonian 5:22, God said we should stay away from every kind of evil. Since the love of money is the root of all evil, it means we should not have a strong desire for it.

Are you wondering how the love of money causes all kinds of evil? Let me share a few examples with you:

THE LOVE OF MONEY WILL CAUSE PEOPLE TO:

DEVIATE FROM THE FAITH

It is a factor that leads Christians to deviate from the faith by compromising the Word of God to obtain money.

BE GREEDY

The desire to always wanting more money can be described as greed. Jesus Christ said in Luke 12:15 that: "we should take heed, and beware of covetousness (all forms of greed): for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth."

BE PROUD

The love of money will make some people feel they are better than others due to their possessions. God said, "Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant (1 Timothy 6:17)."

The love of money causes people to think that they do not need God. No wonder Proverbs 30:8-9 says: "Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, "Who is the LORD?" Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonour the name of my God." We certainly need the wisdom of God to be content in this world.

BE EXPOSED TO TEMPTATION

It exposes an individual to temptation such as; compromising the truth, corruption, stealing, compromising tax payment, exploiting every avenue to make money whilst getting carried away with material things, and many more.

BECOME A SLAVE OF MONEY

The love of money turns people to a slave of money. Matthew 6:24 says: "No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money."

TRUST IN RICHES

God is saying if you love money, your heart will be set on it and you may start trusting in your riches. Proverbs 11:28 says "whoever trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like a green lead."

So, what do you think? Do you think it is possible to be a Christian and love money? I know God blessed Abraham, Solomon, and David with wealth but it is important to note that they were not chasing after money and it was not recorded that they loved money. When God makes anyone wealthy, the aim is for them to use the wealth to glorify God. Apostle Paul said to the Corinthians church that they will be made rich in every way so that they can be generous on every occasion and help others (2 Corinthians 9:11).

From reading today's post, are you going to make changes in your life when it comes to the love of money?

Recently, I was planning to introduce a paid service to something that I do since a lot of people are moving from offering free services to fee-paying services. However, the Holy Spirit told me that I must not charge for it as I am not everybody. He took the time to explain why I must not charge for this service. Amazingly, the Lord also spoke through my husband to advise me.

Are you wondering why I am sharing this with you? I would like to encourage you to be guided by God in whatever you are doing. I plead with you to avoid copying others except God has given you the go-ahead.

Next week's post will be about the dangers of loving money in Christian ministries, I will be sharing some biblical examples of people that perished due to their love of/for money.
