An Open Letter to Those That Misuse Church/Christian Ministry Funds

Hello Readers & Followers,

I hope you are well. I am currently writing a series on 'The Love of Money'. Last week, I wrote about what the love of money is about and the dangers of loving money. If you missed the article, please click here to read. Today's post is the 2nd of 3 teachings in this series.

This open letter is addressed to all Christians in positions of financial authority and that are misusing funds that belong to God's work.

God would like you to be reminded of the following:

Keep your life free from the love of money, and be content with what you have, for God has said, He will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5).

He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this also is vanity (Ecclesiastes 5:10).

For the sake of dishonest gain, you are teaching things that you ought not to teach (Titus 1:10-11).

You say, "I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing. But you do not realise that you are wretched (miserable), pitiful, poor, blind and naked. (Revelation 3:17)."

Do you want to end up like Judas Iscariot, Gehazi and Achan?

Judas Iscariot | Son Of Perdition | The Betrayer

Do you want your life to end like Judas Iscariot, whom for the love of money accepted to betray Jesus? Judas later regretted his actions, however, it was too late as he committed suicide (Matthew 27:1-5).

It was recorded in Acts 1:25 that Judas went “to his own place,” the thought being the place of his own choosing. Accordingly, it is not that Judas was foreordained from eternity past to go to hell, without an opportunity to be saved. Instead, he chose to reject Jesus Christ through his actions. I would like you to know that God is giving you another chance to turn away from misusing His funds to acquire earthly riches on earth that will rot.  

Lay Up Treasures in Heaven
Matthew 6:19-20 says: “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal." Where is your treasure? The Lord carefully warns us in Matthew 6:21, “Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

Gehazi | The Sin of Covetousness 

Do you want to end up like Gehazi that was inflicted with leprosy?- (2 Kings 5:20-27) Gehazi misused his position of authority to cheat Naaman the Syrian, whom his master (Elisha) had healed from leprosy. Gehazi would have been the next Prophet after Elisha but his love for money cut short his destiny and purpose on earth.

Gehazi lusted after money and coveted money which ruined his life. Are you misusing your position of authority to misuse the money that God has committed into your hands? God is giving you a second chance to forsake your evil ways. Do not come up with good reasons to justify your ungodly acts. You can definitely forsake your evil ways. Do not let the devil snatch your soul to hell. 

Examples of the above people are instructions for you
1 Corinthians 10:6, 11 & 12 says:  "These things happened as examples for us so that we will not crave evil things as they did. These things happened to them as examples and were written for our instruction, on whom the ends of the ages have come. So let the one who thinks he is standing be careful that he does not fall."

Achan's Convectousness affected the whole country

Achan was unfaithful to God as he stole and hid what God had instructed them not to take (Joshua 7-8).  The children of Israel faced the consequences of Achan's sin as they were defeated by their enemy which was unusual for them. Joshua took it to the Lord and he confronted Achan about what he had done. Achan eventually confessed but he was later destroyed.

How lovely of Joshua to have confronted Achan's sin? Are you playing a part to cover a Christian leader's covetousness? Do not play a part to cover other people's sins when you know the truth. Phinehas, in Numbers 25:1-12, stood up against sin and God rewarded him with a covenant of peace for that action.

James 4:17 says:

So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.

Ephesians 5:11 says:

Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.

What God would like (James 5:19-20): 

My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back, let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.

Finally, God says: "Not every one that saith unto me Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity - Matthew 7:21 -23.

Wouldn't it be such a disappointment for you to have done so much for God and then on the last day, when you are supposed to be rewarded for your work on earth, God says, "I never knew you?" The fact that you say you are a Christian is not enough, it is time for you to live in righteousness. Your soul is important to God. It is time to stop lusting after God's money. The end is destruction.
