Jesus My Saviour

It's another Monday. Season's greetings to you! We are continuing the series on who Jesus is. Last week, we discussed Jesus the Light of the world, you can click this link to read the previous post. Today, we are going to be learning about Jesus My Saviour.

Dear Lord, thank you for all the good things that you have done for me. Dear Lord, as I read your Word, please help me to understand your Word. Teach me your Word in Jesus' name. Help me to share your Word with others.

Why do you need a Saviour?

A long time ago, our first parents (Adam and Eve) disobeyed God, which made every one of their children to become sinners. However, God sent Jesus to save us from our sins and to restore our relationship with Him. God sent Jesus to be our Saviour.

Let me tell you a story about a wealthy man that Jesus saved

Zacchaeus was a chief tax collector in his town, and he had become very rich (Luke 19:1-10).  A tax collector is someone who collects taxes. Tax collectors were known to have cheated people on their taxes. In fact, in the Bible, tax collectors were referred to as sinners. However, the fact that Zacchaeus was the CEO of tax collectors and was a sinner did not stop Jesus from extending His love towards him.

One day, Zacchaeus heard that Jesus was coming around. He wanted to see Jesus, but he was too short to see over the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree beside the road, for Jesus was going to pass that way. When Jesus came by, He looked up at Zacchaeus and called him by name: "Zacchaeus!" How wonderful! Jesus knew his name. In fact, Jesus knows all of the names of his creations. After all, He created and made us. Back to the story, Jesus said: "Zacchaeus, quick, come down! I must be a guest in your home today." 

Zacchaeus quickly climbed down and took Jesus to his house in great excitement and joy (This tells us that the presence of God can give us joy). However, the people that lived around were displeased. They were judgemental. They said Jesus has gone to be the guest of a notorious sinner, they grumbled. 

Being in the presence of God helped Zacchaeus to reflect on his wrongdoings (This tells us that the presence of God can help us to reflect on our behaviour). Zacchaeus stood before the Lord, he was remorseful and said to Jesus that, "I will give half my wealth to the poor, Lord, and if I have cheated people on their taxes, I will give them back four times as much!" Zacchaeus was ready to forsake his sins and repair the past.

Jesus responded, "Salvation has come to you and your household today, for you are one of the lost sons of Abraham, and I, the Messiah, have come to search for and save those who are lost." Zacchaeus received Jesus into his heart and he was saved.

Jesus wants to save you just like He saved Zacchaeus. Despite Zacchaeus's sins, Jesus still saved him. Would you like to invite Jesus into your heart?

Say this prayer

Dear Lord,

I know that I am a sinner and there is nothing that I can do to save myself

I confess my complete helplessness to forgive my own sin or to work my way to heaven

At this moment I trust in Christ alone as the One who bore my sin when He died on the cross

Thank you for receiving me despite my many sins and failures

I invite you to come into my heart

Come and stay in my heart

Create in me a pure heart, O God,

and renew a steadfast spirit within me

Grant me a willing spirit to sustain me

Write my name in the book of life

In Jesus' name

Amen.

To all who receive Jesus, to those who believed in Jesus' name, He gave them the right to become children of God (John 1:12).
